The Whitney Museum's Philip Morris branch, across
from the Grand Central Station, recently showed Susan Graham's work
in an exhibit called 5 x 5. Five contemporary artists were asked
to choose a work from the museum's collectionn that they found personally
"important or influential, and then to create a work inspired
by that piece."
The artwork Susan Graham chose was Charles Ray's
Puzzle Bottle from 1995, a curious self-portrait of the artist stuck
in a glass bottle all alone. Susan Graham exhibited the ethereal,
seductive, and contemplative photographs of spacecraft, skyscrapers,
and planets featured here. I find them outrageously gorgeous and
truly original. Each photo is a gem of a world and makes my own
seem that much more glorious.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
