Statement.
These are images of the world I imagine lying beneath the surface of the familiar — images of the life under a rock. They are discomfiting for the viewer and are themselves awkward and uncomfortable. Imagine a finger in your bellybutton — how this evokes the precarious balance between pleasure and horror — the balance between a child’s delight in the gooey and an adult’s dread of the abject.

By combining photographs of spaces shot (approximately) as they were found, with photographs of constructions, I have created a series that exists in the liminal space between the real and the imagined — a space traditionally reserved for children. A wonderland.
